A Kitchen Remodel can last anywhere from a few weeks to a few months depending on the scope of the project. During this time you could be without a kitchen and you may wonder what you’re going to eat while this is going on. Takeout can only be eaten so many times and it’s much more expensive than your normal grocery routine. We’ve put together a list of ideas and methods we’ve used to help clients through this aspect of the kitchen remodel
Garage Kitchen
You may or may not be getting rid of your appliances during the remodel. Either way – don’t pitch them right away! At a minimum we recommend clients move their fridge into their garage so they can still store quickly perishable foods. If your budget allows – we can temporarily run power or gas to allow you to use the stove in the garage as well.
The reason we recommend the garage is so that all the appliances are out of the projects way and you don’t scratch new floors or bump them into new cabinets while trying to move them around.
We also recommend buying a countertop microwave (you can store this item inside) for quick, easy meals. Usually these aren’t super expensive and you have a convenient way to heat up leftovers & snacks.
Meal Prep
Maybe it’s winter and you don’t want to cook every night in your garage. We recommend meal prepping as much as possible. Maybe you can do one round in your garage kitchen OR you can see if a family member/friend/neighbor will let you use their kitchen for a few hours. Either way – meal prepping is a great way to save time & energy. Who knows – you may even keep the routine after your kitchen remodel is complete.
Microwave Meals/Air Fryer
We mentioned these before but it’s worth saying again. These are smaller appliances that can be used to make a variety of meals. We’ve included a link to 60 Air Fyer Meals & 25 Microwave Meals!
Family Time
If you have relatives that live nearby, try having a weekly family meal! Not only is this convenient because your old kitchen is now in the landfill BUT it’s also a great way to reconnect with family.
Get Creative
If you’re really in a bind and you don’t want the added cost of putting your kitchen in your garage temporarily – then you can probably find a kitchen somewhere! Maybe your church has one or where you work.
Get Away
Some of our clients choose to go on vacation during their remodel. This is a great idea and when you get back you’ll be much less stressed about what to cook. Or, if you just can’t take having your kitchen torn apart – consider moving into an Air B&B or a long term hotel if you don’t have any other options.
