Kitchen Remodel FAQs

This often depends on the scope of work being performed. We can perform remodels that involve just replacing the cabinets to full tear outs involving multiple rooms and major changes to the structure and layout. The best way to find out is to reach out to our team and discuss your specific needs.
This depends on the project but in general – if we aren’t relocating plumbing or electrical or opening up any walls then a permit is not required. If the project involves more than just replacing the cabinets & cosmetic changes, then yes a permit is required.

There are hundreds of factors to consider – which is why we work with the best kitchen designers in the Quad Cities. Some basic factors that can help you get started are as follows:

    • Do you currently have enough storage?
    • Is your current layout functional or do you need more space?
    • Do you want your kitchen open to other areas of the home or do you want it in a separated room?
    • Do you have adequate lighting and outlets in the space?
    • Do you need a durable and easy to clean floor/backsplash?
    • Does your family want seating in the kitchen or would you prefer a separate dining room?
    • Does the style of the cabinets and counters fit your personal style? Will they clash with the rest of the house?
Quartz and granite are the most popular and most affordable choices. Quartz is a manmade product that is extremely resistant to stains and has great durability. Granite offers a natural stone look but isn’t quite as durable as quartz. Granite is typically less expensive that quartz.

This is a tricky question best suited for a kitchen designer to answer but the basic overview is as follows:

    • The main difference in the quality comes down to the materials used to build the cabinets and the amount of customization that can be put into a cabinet.
    • Lines that offer fewer design options such as doors style, hinge style, cabinet style/function, and drawer construction are less expensive because the factory has fewer customizations to make during production.
    • Cabinets that are made of all plywood are more expensive and more durable than cabinets made out of particle board.
    • Cabinets with high quality hardware (drawer slides and hinges) are more expensive than mass produced hardware. The higher the quality of hardware the quieter and smoother the operation.

Having a designer discuss your personal needs is the best way to accomplish this. We can create cabinet layouts to accommodate specific needs, but over the years we’ve learned the following ways can help you get the most out of your kitchen:

    • Cabinets that go up to the ceiling
    • Roll out trays and dividers
    • Pull out trash cans
    • Adding more cabinets to the layout.

The first question to ask here is: how did you come up with your budget? Did you talk with a professional about your project or is it just a wild guess on how much you want to spend? Our suggestion to all of our clients is to not focus on the budget but focus on the investment in your home. You’ll be living with your kitchen for a long time. Meet with our designers to plan your dream kitchen and consider financing your project if it’s more than you want to spend. A kitchen remodel is not a project your want to cut corners on. If you want to lower the cost of your kitchen the only ways to do this are

    • Using a lower cost cabinet/countertop
    • Reduce the scope of the project
  • 33% deposit – due 3 weeks before project start
  • 33% progress payment at 50% completion
  • 34% final payment upon substantial completion (the point where all we have left to do is execute the punch-list)

Our team will communicate any issues or changes immediately. If there is a cost involved we will send a change order for you to approve in order to move forward and notify you of any schedule impacts
